Why Reading Fluency Isn't Enough?​​

Many parents focus heavily on their child's reading ability when preparing for targeted schools. However, being a perfect reader is only half the battle.

Top primary schools rarely ask a child only to read. If a child reads fluently but lacks the verbal ability to discuss the book, explain vocabulary, or answer follow-up questions, they will struggle in the interview room.

To bridge this gap, we have designed a 12-Week Guided Reading Top-Up, available exclusively to students enrolled in Miss Angie's regular P1 Prep Class.

⚠️ Prerequisite: Students must have a basic phonetic foundation (ability to read and blend).

🚀 How This Top-Up Works​

This is NOT a self-study reading list. It is a comprehensive, teacher-guided training system covering Input, Output, and In-Class Refinement:

1. Weekly Reading Routine (Input)

Using our dedicated reading app, we assign 5 digital books covering diverse topics each week. After reading and listening, students complete comprehension questions to build a solid foundation.

2. Decoding Interview Vocabulary

Recent P1 interviews increasingly ask children to explain the meaning of specific vocabulary words. We extract core vocabulary from the weekly reading materials and teach students how to verbally express these meanings in the simplest, most effective way possible.

3. Daily Practical Exercises (Output)

After absorbing the stories, students log into our interactive training app to practice specific interview skills daily. Each task is designed to tackle the most challenging interview formats:

• Mon: Show and Tell

• Tue: Situational Questions

• Wed: Personal Questions

• Thu: Storytelling

• Fri: Picture Description

 

4. Exclusive Guided Questions for Parents

Not sure what to discuss after reading? We provide exclusive Guided Questions for every story, allowing parents to effortlessly lead high-quality, engaging discussions at home.

5. In-Class Refinement by Miss Angie ✨ 

The most critical part of this program happens in the classroom. Miss Angie personally reviews the students' daily app tasks during their regular lessons. She guides the students and refines their verbal expressions, ensuring they aren't just memorising answers, but truly mastering confident, decent, and natural response skills.

📌 A 2-Phase Progressive Roadmap

To truly meet the rigorous reading standards of top-tier primary schools, a short-term fix is never enough. We have strategically structured this program into two progressive phases to align perfectly with the P1 interview timeline:

Phase 1: Core Foundation & 1st Round Preparation

• Duration: August – September (8 Weeks)

• Objective: Build a solid reading habit and tackle the foundational interview tasks. Students will learn how to accurately describe pictures, answer personal questions naturally, and build the confidence to speak up in front of interviewers.

 

Phase 2: Advanced Mastery & 2nd Round Preparation

• Duration: October – November (6 Weeks)

• Objective: Top-tier schools reserve their most challenging questions for the 2nd and 3rd round interviews, often testing advanced vocabulary and deep comprehension. Phase 2 introduces highly complex reading materials, focusing on advanced storytelling, situational problem-solving, and in-depth vocabulary explanations to ensure your child stands out among the top candidates.
