Kapow! Issue 23, The Magic of Bricks, invites children to see creativity in everyday materials. Through brick art, found object creations, and stop-motion storytelling, children explore how ideas, feelings, and stories can be expressed in many different ways.
This issue encourages children to look beyond “making something nice” and think more deeply: What can this material become? What feeling do I want to show? How can I explain my creative choices?
From a simple brick to a short animated story, children learn that creativity is not limited to drawing or painting. It can begin with anything — a brick, a sock, a paper box, or even one tiny movement.

今期 Must-know News 介紹 Toronto 的 Art of the Brick 展覽，藝術家 Nathan Sawaya 用超過一百三十件積木作品，展示 bricks 如何變成雕塑、名畫、動物和大型裝置。當孩子看到一個人像從自己胸口打開、一隻由積木重塑的 tiger、一條巨型 blue whale 高高掛在展場，他們學到的不只是 vocabulary，而是一個很重要的觀念：
材料本身不限制想像力，限制想像力的，往往是我們對材料的固定看法。
這正正是幼兒階段很值得保留的能力。孩子天生會把紙盒當城堡、把毛巾當山、把襪子當小動物；只是長大後，我們太快告訴他們「這個不是這樣用的」。今期其實是在提醒家長：不要太快把物件定義死。
家中的普通物件，也可以變成創作入口
今期的 Weekly Task 很適合親子延伸的方向，是讓孩子用日常物件創作。匙羹、襪子、紙盒、鈕扣，本來只是生活用品，但在孩子眼中，可以變成表情、角色、甚至一件 mood sculpture。
家長可以在家中這樣問：
「這件物件除了原本用途，還可以變成甚麼？」「如果你想表達開心，會選擇圓圓的、軟軟的，還是亮亮的材料？」「你的作品想讓人有甚麼感覺？」
這些問題不需要標準答案，卻能幫助孩子把觀察、感受和語言連起來。
Stop Motion：讓孩子看見故事是一步一步做出來的
Hands-on Project 加入 stop motion 小動畫創作。孩子會發現，一段短短的動畫，原來需要很多張照片、很多次細小移動、很多耐性和計劃。
這是一個很好的練習：孩子不只是「想一個故事」，而是要把故事拆成細小步驟，再慢慢完成。這種能力，對日後的寫作、表達、解難和 project learning 都很有幫助。更重要的是，孩子完成後要介紹自己的作品，這不是單純 show and tell，而是有過程、有方法、有反思的表達。
